About Us
At Altered Tails, we are dedicated to providing accessible and affordable high-quality spay and neuter services for companion animals and free-roaming cats. Our mission is to eliminate euthanasia as a means of animal population control, and we are committed to making a positive impact in the community.
Our Mission
Our mission is to offer high-quality, low-cost surgeries that make a significant difference in the lives of pets and their owners. We believe that every animal deserves a chance at a healthy and happy life, free from the risks associated with overpopulation.
Our Vision
Our vision is to create a world where euthanasia is no longer necessary as a means of controlling animal populations. We strive to make our services available to all, regardless of financial means, by providing accessible and affordable options.
Our History
Altered Tails was founded in 2003 with a clear vision of providing affordable and accessible spay and neuter services. We began our journey by offering services through a mobile clinic that traveled to underserved communities in the metro Phoenix area. In 2007, local philanthropists Bea and Dick Barnhart donated the building at 950 W. Hatcher Road, which we named the Altered Tails Barnhart Clinic in their honor. The clinic opened its doors in 2009, and by 2012, we had become the first and only Humane Alliance-certified clinic in Arizona, performing over 8,000 spay and neuter surgeries annually.
Our Services
Today, Altered Tails provides services for owned pets, rescue organizations preparing their animals for adoption, and groups practicing Trap Neuter Return with free-roaming cats. We remain committed to offering high-quality services at an affordable price. Our services include:
- Spay and Neuter Surgeries: We specialize in providing high-quality spay and neuter surgeries to prevent unwanted litters and reduce the risk of certain health issues.
- Trap Neuter Return (TNR) Programs: We support TNR programs to help manage free-roaming cat populations humanely.
- Transport Assistance: Our W.A.G.S. (Wheels for Animals Getting Spayed/Neutered) program provides transport assistance for pet owners without the means to get their animals to the clinic for surgery.
Our Impact
Since 2003, more than 225,000 dogs and cats have been sterilized by Altered Tails. We are proud of our achievements and continue to strive for excellence in our mission to eliminate euthanasia as a means of animal population control.
At Altered Tails, we are passionate about making a difference in the lives of animals and their owners. We believe that by working together, we can create a better future for all animals. If you are looking for a reliable and compassionate partner in animal care, we invite you to join us on this journey. Together, we can make a significant impact and ensure that every animal has the chance to live a healthy and happy life.
