Gary grew up in Sacramento, CA until moving to Virginia City during his freshman year of High School. Like most kids, he wanted to be a firefighter starting at a very young age. At sixteen he was given an opportunity to be a student volunteer firefighter and the summer after graduating from High School he worked as a seasonal firefighter for the state of Nevada. At nineteen he tested and was hired as a full-time firefighter for the Storey County Fire Protection District. There he was promoted through the ranks and achieved the position of District Fire Chief, in which he served for seventeen years of his thirty-year career, retiring in 2017.
After retiring, he started a consulting company assisting local government leadership through coaching, management, and mentoring. This was supposed to be a couple of days a week type of workload, however, after a year and half of working 50-60 hours a week, it was really time for Gary to slow down.
A couple of months after closing his company, he started to get a little stir crazy and wanted to do something different. Project management was always an interest and was much of what he did in the fire district. That is when he saw that Mountain View advertised for an interesting position of Facilities Coordinator. He met with the management team and really liked the energy, and culture, and appreciated the forward-looking vision of the organization. Shortly after starting it made sense to include Safety Coordination in the job as well.
He loves the challenges of a growing company, working with very bright and energetic professionals and forwarding thinking team members that want the very best for their team, clients, patients, and guests.
