Cameron MacDearmid grew up on the north shore of Massachusetts surrounded by dogs, cats, and a miniature horse. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in biology and played soccer at Swarthmore College (PA). After college, he did viral immunology research at The Jackson Laboratory (ME) before continuing his studies at University of Chicago (IL), where he received a master’s degree in microbiology. He later worked as a veterinary assistant at a mixed animal veterinary practice in mid-coast Maine, falling in love with the veterinary world. He subsequently received his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Cornell University.
The veterinary profession appealed to him because there is a great opportunity to positively affect the lives of people and their animals every day. He has a profound respect for the different ways animals enrich people’s lives and believes that people are entrusted to take care of animals. He chose a veterinary career because he can make use of his scientific background, interests in medicine and surgery, comfort around animals, and desire to help people.
He enjoys general practice and gravitates towards soft-tissue surgery (including laparoscopic surgery) and dentistry. He is proud to be a member of the Broadview team and is proud that they remain a privately-owned, independent hospital group that constantly strives to take care of their clients in their time of need. He is proud that they build teams to treat patients like they are their own.
His goals are to constantly improve his skills and knowledge and help Broadview continually refine how they can offer the best quality veterinary care with compassion. He would like to become proficient in ultrasonography. He enjoys hiking with his pup, kayaking, snowshoeing, and traveling. He also enjoys spending quality time with his family. He has a spirited senior Shorkie named Rubie, a mischievous yellow lab named Blitzen, a one-eyed fearless cat named Luna, and a scaredy cat named Ella. He also has an Australian Shepherd mix named Tucker and a cat named Thumbelina.
