Dr. McFarland grew up along the banks of the Missouri River in Fort Benton, Montana. His father, Bill, was a veterinarian in Fort Benton, Montana. He attended Carroll College in Helena, Montana, where he earned his B.A. in Biology. In 1993, he graduated from Colorado State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine. After completing veterinary school, Dr. McFarland practiced in Bozeman, Montana. In 1994, he joined the Rawlins Veterinary Clinic as an associate. In 1995, he and his wife, Amy, purchased the practice and have directed the growth of the practice ever since.
Dr. McFarland is an active member of the Wyoming Veterinary Medical Association, American Veterinary Medical Association, and the American Association of Equine Practitioners. He is a past president of the Wyoming Veterinary Medical Association and continues to serve on the Board of Directors. He also served as a Delegate for Wyoming to the American Veterinary Medical Association. Dr. McFarland currently serves as the Vice President for Pet Partners of Carbon County.
Dr. McFarland is committed to serving the Carbon County community. He enjoys all aspects of veterinary medicine, particularly the problem-solving aspects. His special interests include soft tissue surgeries, orthopedic surgery, including plating, and cruciate ligament repair and total hip replacements. He also has a special interest in client education. In his time away from the hospital, Dr. McFarland enjoys spending quality time with his family, including his wife Amy and their four children. He also likes to go fishing, boating, and bird hunting. Additional family members include Orion and Betsy, a 10-year-old brother and sister duo of German wirehaired pointers, and the newest member of the McFarland clan is Tobias, a 2-year-old Duetsch Draathar [citation][4].
