Ellen Newsom joined the staff of Duke Animal Clinic in August 2010. She is a native of Tuscaloosa, AL and grew up in a barn. Ellen attended both the University of Alabama and Auburn University during her undergraduate career. Her Bachelor of Science degree is Magna cum Laude from Excelsior College. In July 2010, she graduated from The Royal School for Veterinary Studies at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland, earning the degree of Bachelor of Veterinary Medicine and Surgery (BVM&S). She is a member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons, the American Veterinary Medical Association, the Alabama Veterinary Medical Association, and the Mobile Veterinary Medical Association. Dr. Newsom has a strong interest in equine medicine but enjoys seeing all patients. As a veterinary student, her interest piqued in the area of small animal medicine and surgery. Dr. Newsom has 3 rescue dogs (Ceilidh, Rusty, and Iola) and a cat [citation].
