A native of Chicago, Dr. Lawrence M. Fox received his DVM degree from the University of Illinois in 1968. At the time, he was the youngest veterinarian in the country. He returned to Chicagoland after serving as a Captain in the US Army Veterinary Corps in Washington state. He established the Elmwood-Grove Animal Hospital in 1972.
In 1981, Dr. Fox became one of the first 37 veterinarians in the country to become board-certified in Canine and Feline Practice, as a Diplomate of the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners. He has since been re-certified every 10 years, and is now one of only 900 ABVP Diplomates in the United States and abroad. This process involves a long and difficult series of additional studies and examinations to become a board-certified specialist recognized by the American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA). This process takes a minimum of three years to complete and is motivated by a commitment to excellence. ABVP Diplomates have proven knowledge and expertise above and beyond what is required to practice veterinary medicine, earning the privilege to specialize in the treatment of one or more categories of animals.
Dr. Fox has been actively involved in the community through service and school organizations. He and his wife are the parents of three adult sons and share their home with numerous pets. When not working or babysitting their grandchildren, the Foxes enjoy movies and ballroom dancing [citation].
