Eliza Baker was born in Nashville and attended American University in Washington D.C., where she received her Bachelor’s degree in International studies, with a minor in Biology. She graduated summa Cum Laude from there and came to Knoxville to attend veterinary school at the University of TN. She received her D.V.M. in 2021 and went to work at another small animal practice while simultaneously beginning work on her PhD in Comparative & Experimental Medicine. For this program, she is researching infectious diseases of urban wildlife, which leads her to many extraordinary adventures.
Working at Fountain City Animal Hospital is special to her because she enjoys the top-notch veterinary care they provide, as well as their excellent and kind support staff. She appreciates deeply the mutual respect among the doctors who are always willing to jump in and give second, third, or fourth opinions on challenging medical cases. Of all the practices she’s ever been involved with, either as support staff herself or as a veterinarian, she’s found Fountain City Animal Hospital to be the absolute most cooperative, caring, and encouraging. She also loves communicating with clients to problem solve and educate when needed.
At home, she lives with her husband, Banjo, and Kazooie – her cats. She claims that Banjo is crazy but friendly, and Kazooie is calm, cool, and collected. When she’s not at work, studying, or out in the field doing research, she tries to find time to read or just relax out in the woods, hiking or watching the birds [citation].
