Dr. Jennifer Smallwood is a Dallas native who attended the Hockaday School before receiving a BS in Animal Science from Texas A&M University in 1999. In 2003, she graduated from Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine and moved to Lexington, Kentucky, to complete a private practice internship focused on thoroughbred racehorses at Keeneland Racecourse. At the racetrack, she first became interested in acupuncture as a therapeutic and diagnostic tool. She practiced in the Lexington area for ten years. Over time, her practice shifted from a traditional Western medicine practice to an integrative approach encompassing both Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine and Western Medicine. In 2013, she returned to Dallas and opened an ambulatory acupuncture practice servicing horses and small animals.
She is the founder and owner of Integrative Veterinary Wellness in Richardson, Texas, and she is excited to offer Integrative Veterinary Medicine techniques to even more patients in the Lewisville area. Dr. Smallwood is a graduate of the Canine Rehabilitation Program at the University of Tennessee’s College of Veterinary Medicine and holds the Certified Canine Rehab Practitioner designation. She earned the Certified Veterinary Food Therapist title from Chi University in 2016. In 2020, she became one of the first 100 vets in the country to earn a Master’s Degree in Traditional Chinese Veterinary Medicine through Chi University [citation][3].
