Dr. Jennifer Lynn Demko Wardlaw is a St. Louis native whose family has lived in St. Louis for over six generations. She completed her undergraduate degree at the University of Arizona, including a year abroad at Sydney University in Australia. Her veterinary degree was completed at the University of Missouri. After becoming a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine, she continued her studies by going on to Mississippi State University for her surgical specialization, including a Rotating Small Animal Internship, a Master’s in Veterinary Anatomy, and a Small Animal Surgical Residency. She passed her national surgical board exam on the first attempt and became Board Certified by the American College of Veterinary Surgeons in 2009. Dr. Wardlaw worked at Mississippi State University for almost ten years, helping to create and develop the sports medicine and rehabilitation service while serving as Chief of the Small Animal Surgery Department. She then lived in Charleston, South Carolina, working as the Head of Surgery and Director of Sports Medicine and Physical Rehabilitation at a private referral hospital. Dr. Wardlaw and her family moved back home to St. Louis in 2013 and started her own concierge surgical practice, Gateway Veterinary Surgery. Her professional interests include orthopedics, surgical oncology, sports medicine, physical rehabilitation, wounds, and skin reconstruction. She has written over 50 textbook chapters, scientific abstracts, and research articles on these subjects. She lectures nationally and locally and continues to be an active member of local, state, and national professional veterinary organizations, holding numerous elected board and volunteer committee positions.
