Dr. Mary Purvis was raised on a horse farm in Mechanicsburg, PA and has had a life-long love for animals of all kinds. She graduated from Gettysburg College in 1991 with a BS in Biology and has a DVM from Oklahoma State University Veterinary School where she graduated with honors in 1999. She worked as a mixed animal practitioner in OK for six years before specializing in high-volume spay/neuter surgeries. She worked with the Oklahoma Humane Society for 10 years performing over 80,000 surgical sterilizations for rescued adoption and privately owned animals. Dr. Purvis transitioned to PA in 2017 with her husband Bucky and daughter Emma. She acquired Hempfield Animal Hospital from Dr. Edkin in 2021. As a competent and thorough professional with a genuine compassion for animals, she views every pet as a beloved family member and treats each one with the utmost in quality care. She feels it is her calling in life to help God’s creatures and to help maintain the human-animal bond that exists between her patients and their owners [citation].
