Fabio Del Piero is a professor at the LSU School of Veterinary Medicine. He is a post-doctoral associate from Cornell University and holds a PhD from the University of Torino, Italy, and the University of Pennsylvania (2001). He also earned a DVM from the University of Milano (Italy) in 1990. Del Piero is a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Pathologists.
His research interests include comparative pathology of all vertebrates and all organ systems, comparative microbiology with an emphasis on virology, and molecular biology. His teaching interests align with his research areas, focusing on comparative pathology, comparative microbiology, and molecular biology.
Del Piero has received several awards and honors, including being named to the Dean's Teacher Merit Honor Roll multiple times (2014, 2015, 2016, 2018, and 2019). He is also a lifetime honorary member of The Italian Association of Veterinary Pathologists and The Italian Society of Veterinary Sciences (2014). Additionally, he received the Barbara Jean Thompson Service Award in 2009 and the Ljudevit Jurak Comparative Pathology Award in 2003. He was recognized as The Outstanding Young Person in 2000.
