Dr. Rice grew up in Davidson, NC, which puts him in the rare subset of 'native Charlotteans.' Largely through the influence of the (underrated) 80's cartoon, ‘The Wonderful World of David the Gnome,' Dr. Rice knew he wanted to become a veterinarian at a young age. He received his Bachelor's degree in biology from St. Mary's College of Maryland and attended the University of Minnesota where he was awarded his Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine and Masters in Public Health. In 2016, he moved back to Charlotte to complete a small animal rotating internship at Carolina Veterinary Specialists before working as an Emergency Veterinarian for several years in the Charlotte region. After the birth of his second child in 2020, Dr. Rice shifted from emergency medicine to general practice and has enjoyed building long-lasting relationships with his clients and patients. Dr. Rice and his family live in East Charlotte with their Golden (George Lucas), Beagle (Phyllis) and small menagerie of cats (Moo Cow, Phteve, Cosmic Creepers, Marbles, and Pizza). In his free time, Dr. Rice can be found in his garden, playing board games, and exploring Nature. Dr. Rice is a proud nerd and advocate of the LGBTQIA+ and neurodivergent communities.
