A native of New Hartford, N.Y., Dr. Monaghan knew she always wanted to be a veterinarian. She worked as a veterinary assistant, in Rochester, when she was an undergraduate student. Dr. Monaghan attended the Rochester Institute of Technology, and received her BS in Biology. She graduated Summa Cum Laude in 2003. Dr. Monaghan went on to Tufts University where she received her Doctorate in Veterinary Medicine in 2007. She moved to the Western New York area after graduation, and joined Seneca Animal Hospital in 2007. Dr. Monaghan is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, the New York State Veterinary Medical Society, the American Animal Hospital Association, and Buffalo Academy of Veterinary Medicine. Dr. Monaghan has a special interest in weight management and nutrition. She also volunteers her time at the Marilla Rabies Clinic. Dr. Monaghan has a special Border Collie, named Hank, who is a certified therapy dog. She would bring him to Children’s Hospital to help encourage and comfort the very sick children in need of a loving companion. By bringing Hank in regularly, they both were able to help children cope with their illnesses. Dr Monaghan spends her leisure time not only with Hank, but also with her 3 legged cat, Ellie. An excellent baker, she also enjoys reading and doing crafts in her spare time.
