Dr. Jason McLendon is originally from Carrollton, GA. His grandparents owned farms in South Georgia, and he spent a lot of his childhood summers there. This is where he knew he wanted to be a veterinarian. When Dr. McLendon was fifteen years old, he started working for mixed animal veterinarians in Carroll County, Georgia. He soon realized that he had a passion for the large animal side of veterinary medicine. He obtained a Bachelor of Animal Science from the University of Georgia in 1996. While attending the University of Georgia, he was employed by the UGA School of Veterinary Medicine as a veterinary technician. After graduating college and before going to veterinary school, Dr. McLendon was employed by a purebred Angus farm in Glasgow, Montana.
Dr. McLendon moved to Baton Rouge, Louisiana to attend Louisiana State University School of Veterinary Medicine. While in veterinary school, he worked for mixed animal veterinarians as well as a large Arabian breeding and training farm. He also lived on a farm and managed an equine boarding facility while attending veterinary school. During his time in veterinary school, Dr. McLendon completed several externships at Rood and Riddle Equine Hospital (Lexington, Kentucky), Pea Ridge Veterinary Clinic (Pea Ridge, Arkansas), and Equine Medical Associates (Hawkinsville, GA). He graduated from LSUSVM in 2001.
After completing veterinary school, Dr. McLendon returned to Georgia and worked as an equine ambulatory practitioner. After one year in the field, he went to work at Coosa Valley Equine Center in Pell City, Alabama. Coosa Valley Equine Center is a surgical referral center that specializes in equine lameness diagnosis and treatment.
Dr. McLendon worked at CVEC for almost three years and then returned to Georgia. Southern Crescent Equine Services was established in 2005 in Newnan, GA, and has evolved into a general equine practice that offers a wide variety of services. Dr. McLendon’s special interests include lameness, minor surgeries, reproduction, and dentistry. He is also an FEI accredited treating veterinarian. Most of Dr. McLendon’s free time is spent with his wife and three teenagers. They can be found at volleyball, basketball, and football games.
