In 1995, Dr. Beckett founded VCA Mill Run with his father. While he no longer regularly sees appointments at Mill Run, he does consult and assist with major orthopedic traumas and is a limited partner owner. He now serves as medical director for VCA Sawmill and Westerville Animal Hospitals in Central Ohio and spends most of his time at VCA Sawmill. He works closely with new doctors for all three central Ohio locations, mentoring and teaching.
Dr. Beckett earned his B.A. in Biology from Dennison University in 1984 and his DVM from The Ohio State University in 1989. Initially, he focused on mixed animal practice in Dover, Ohio, then turned to small animal medicine and surgery in Dublin, Ohio. From 1998 to 2003, he worked at an emergency and critical care facility, where he served for two years as the lead trauma surgeon.
Dr. Beckett served as the 2017-2018 Ohio Veterinary Medical Association president. He also served on The Ohio State Veterinary Medical Advancement Board and Alumni Council, and on the Columbus State Veterinary Technology Program board. He is past president of the Columbus Humane Shelter and is currently serving on the board of GiGi's Shelter.
Since 2005, Dr. Beckett and his wife, Mary, have raised and bred Thoroughbreds. Dr. Beckett shares his busy life with his wife, Mary, and their three children: Travis, Ben, and Maxine. They live at home with "Dallas," their Maine Coon cat, and "Bex," their Labrador retriever. Dr. Beckett recently became a grandfather to Preston Tod and Sofia [citation].
