Glenn Nielsen's love of pets started in 1955 when he helped his parents raise and train field trial Golden retrievers, black Labradors, and Chesapeake Bay Retrievers. He carried that passion as he worked and studied at the University of Minnesota’s College of Veterinary Medicine. While at the University, Dr. Nielsen had the opportunity to build his skills in a number of key areas, including assisting in the testing and research of new drugs for open-angle glaucoma and being selected to be part of a specialized student surgical team to hone his skills in various surgical procedures. Dr. Nielsen was introduced to holistic veterinary medicine in 1976 and has since incorporated some of those methods into his veterinary medicine practice. In 1979, he bought Waite Park Veterinary Hospital in Waite Park, MN. He practiced all aspects of veterinary medicine and in 1980 began offering alternative cancer therapies. Almost immediately, the alternative cancer therapies had helped cure several cancer patients. 1987 saw the addition of chiropractic care and acupuncture to our quickly expanding list of services. These alternative treatments proved to be a great success among patients and led Dr. Nielsen to attend the American Holistic Veterinary Medical Association’s annual meeting in 1990. This meeting acted as the catalyst in transforming Waite Park Vet Hospital from a strictly traditional Western medicine veterinary hospital into a hospital that practices integrative medicine (a unique blend of Western medicine and holistic medicine).
