For as long as I can remember, I have always wanted to be a veterinarian. From an early age, I loved animals, and everyone told me I should be a veterinarian when I grew up. I decided that sounded like a great idea. It wasn’t until I started my first job working at a veterinary clinic as a kennel technician that I realized there was so much more to being a veterinarian than just loving animals. The more I worked in veterinary clinics, I realized that I not only loved being around animals, but I also loved working with people. I love meeting the people who come into the hospital with their pets and getting to know their story and see the unique bond they share with their pets. Getting to work with both people and their pets is something I love about veterinary medicine.
I grew up in Birmingham, Alabama, and went to Auburn University, where I graduated with my bachelor’s degree in Animal Sciences in 2017. After this, I decided to attend Texas A&M for my veterinary degree. I moved to Texas for veterinary school and after being here for only a few months, I fell in love with Texas and decided to make it my home. One of my interests within the field of veterinary medicine is practicing Fear Free medicine. I have a soft spot for animals who are scared to come to the vet and enjoy working with those animals to make sure they have the best experience possible. I also work hard to prevent this fear from starting in young animals by making every veterinary visit a positive experience.
In my free time, I love to travel, hike, and play tennis with my husband. We have a Mini Australian Shepherd named Cinna, who is the third member of our family. I am very passionate about veterinary mission trips, which is another reason I chose veterinary medicine. I have been able to be a part of several trips to Honduras and the Dominican Republic, and I am excited to be able to continue these trips in the future [citation].
