About Us
At Animal Charity of Ohio, we are dedicated to making a difference in the lives of abused, abandoned, and neglected animals in Mahoning County. Founded 60 years ago by Dr. Jean Kelty and Perc Kelty, our mission has grown from a small garage operation to a comprehensive humane society that provides a wide range of services to support animal welfare.
Our organization is the only humane society in Mahoning County, and we take pride in our commitment to fighting animal cruelty and educating the public on responsible pet ownership. We believe that animal companionship is essential for better mental health, reducing loneliness, anxiety, and depression. Our goal is to make pet ownership accessible to all individuals, regardless of socioeconomic status, by offering affordable veterinary services and humane programs.
We assist nearly 700 animals each year, providing them with the care and support they need. Our services include finding homes for animals, prosecuting animal offenders, and offering affordable veterinary care. We also engage in humane investigations to protect animals from abuse, abandonment, and neglect. Our humane agents are certified through the State of Ohio and appointed by the Mahoning County Probate Court to enforce Ohio animal protection laws.
Our veterinary clinic is a cornerstone of our services, providing essential medical care to animals in need. We never turn away a sick or injured animal, ensuring that every pet receives the treatment it deserves. Our clinic offers a range of services, including spaying, neutering, vaccinations, and preventative medication.
We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization, relying on donations from individuals, corporate support, and bequests to continue our vital work. Your tax-deductible contributions help us pay for vaccines, medical supplies, and caretakers to care for the animals daily. By supporting us, you are helping to save lives and improve the well-being of countless animals in our community.
At Animal Charity of Ohio, we are committed to being a voice for the voiceless. We strive to create a better future for animals in need, and we invite you to join us in this mission. Together, we can make a significant difference in the lives of companion animals in Mahoning County.
