About Us
At the Capital Area Humane Society, we are dedicated to promoting the humane treatment of companion animals through protection, placement, education, and example. Our mission is to create a community that values the human-animal bond and ensures all animals are healthy and safe.
We provide top-notch medical and behavioral attention to all animals in our care, ensuring they receive the best possible treatment. In some cases, we seek assistance from other organizations to provide specialized care that we cannot offer within our facilities. Our Special Care & Cruelty Fund is specifically designed to cover the additional costs of urgent and specialized care, such as thoracic surgery, dermatological treatments, and skin grafts, for animals in need of extraordinary medical attention.
We are a local and independent 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, not affiliated with any regional, statewide, or national organization. This independence allows us to focus solely on the welfare of companion animals in the greater mid-Michigan region. We do not receive any tax funding, relying solely on donations and community support to continue our vital work.
Our services include animal adoption, surrender, and rehoming programs. We partner with organizations like Adopt-a-Pet.com and the Petco Foundation to make the rehoming process easier and more effective. We also offer low-cost spay/neuter clinics, vaccination services, and a Pet Food Bank program to assist pet owners experiencing financial hardship.
We believe in providing a safe and nurturing environment for all animals. Our shelter is designed to ensure the well-being of each animal, with a focus on creating a home-like environment for adoptable pets. We do not euthanize healthy or adoptable animals for lack of space, and we place no time limits on an animal’s stay until a new home is found.
At the Capital Area Humane Society, we are committed to transforming the lives of animals in need. With the support of our community, we strive to create a brighter future for these beloved companions. If you are passionate about animal welfare and want to make a difference, we invite you to join us in our mission to promote the humane treatment of companion animals.
