About Us
At Eastfield Hospital for Animals, we are dedicated to providing compassionate and quality veterinary medical and surgical care to all of our clients and their pets. Our philosophy is centered around offering a similar level of medical technology to your pet that would be offered in a human hospital, ensuring that your furry friends receive the best possible care.
Our family-owned small animal practice, directed by Dr. Bob Shurtleff and his wife Theresa Shurtleff, has been helping animals since 1989. Dr. Chris Brashear, a 1987 graduate of the Missouri College of Veterinary Medicine, practices general medicine and surgery, and is an avid lover of the great outdoors. Our team of experienced veterinarians and technicians, including Terry Rose, CVT, Emmanuela Griswold, Lynda O'Neil, Ashley Taveres, CVT, Summer Beck, CVT, and Katie Slattery, are committed to providing top-notch care for your pets.
We offer a wide variety of services, including annual examinations, vaccinations, fecal exams, canine heartworm/tick testing, and feline Leukemia and FIV testing. Our hospital is equipped with a fully-stocked in-house pharmacy and an online pharmacy for convenient home delivery of your pet's medications. We also provide primary care for pets that are ill or injured, and offer referrals to specialty hospitals when necessary.
Our diagnostic services include complete blood counts, chemistry panels, fecal exams, and urinalyses, with daily lab pickups for more complex testing at regional IDEXX or ANTECH laboratories. We perform a range of soft-tissue surgeries, manage basic orthopedic problems, and offer orthopedic referrals for more complex issues. Our state-of-the-art digital x-ray suite allows us to perform most radiographic studies, and we digitally transmit the x-rays to board-certified radiologists for further diagnostic workup.
In addition to our medical and surgical services, we also offer dental cleaning and most dental surgeries, with referrals to dental specialty clinics as needed. We handle a variety of medical, surgical, dental, and behavioral problems, and offer consultations with specialists as needed. Our team is committed to keeping our fees reasonable and strives to stay within your budget. We also offer a credit plan, CareCredit™, and work with pet health insurance companies to help with finances.
We primarily see pet cats and dogs, but we also work extensively with dog and cat rescue groups in the area, as well as with wildlife under the auspices of the Urban Wildlife organization of Springfield. Our hospital is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM, Tuesday and Thursday from 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM, Wednesday and Friday from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM, and Saturday from 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM. We reserve a few urgent care appointments daily for more urgent needs and will accommodate unscheduled visits whenever possible. True life-or-death emergencies will be stabilized and referred to one of the nearest available 24-hour facilities.
