Anne McClanahan grew up on Madison's West side and has many fond memories of spending her summers at Parkcrest Pool and winters sledding down the giant hill at Elver Park. She attended Memorial High School, where she continued her love of swimming and figured out that she wanted to go into the sciences after high school. She moved to Iowa City, IA, to get her degree in Integrative Physiology at the University of Iowa. After graduating, she worked in a research lab for a year but decided to pursue a career in veterinary medicine after her dog had an allergic reaction to a medication. She spent the following year working in a veterinary clinic as an assistant and then applied to the University of Wisconsin School of Veterinary Medicine. She started working at Four Lakes Veterinary Clinic right after graduation in 2018. During her time at Four Lakes, the clinic became Fear Free Certified and started seeing many animals with behavioral conditions. Veterinary behavior has always been an interest of hers, and in 2023, she was lucky enough to start a non-conforming residency program with the help of Dr. Marie Hopfensperger. She will be working towards board certification over the next few years, helping animals and their owners from all over Wisconsin through challenging behavioral conditions. In her spare time, she loves spending time with her family, which includes her husband Andrew and their two boys, Cody and Noah. They also have a dog and a cat who provide endless amusement and affection towards her kids [citation].
