About Us
At Four Paws Veterinary Services, we are dedicated to providing top-notch veterinary care to the pets of our community. Founded in 2000 as a house call service, we have grown to become a multi-doctor clinic located in Mystic, Connecticut. Our journey began with Dr. Cheryl and Dr. Lawrence Monteiro, who traveled to homes and businesses in southern New London County, Connecticut, and southern Washington County, Rhode Island, providing small animal health care services.
In 2006, we expanded our services by acquiring Old Mystic Animal Clinic, allowing us to offer clinic-based services such as hospitalization of sick patients, radiology services, and dental and surgical procedures. This expansion enabled us to add more veterinarians and support staff, enhancing our ability to deliver comprehensive care to our patients. By 2011, we moved to our current location at 151 Cow Hill Road, Mystic, Connecticut, where we have continued to grow and improve our facilities to better serve our clients and their pets.
Our clinic is equipped with state-of-the-art technology, including digital radiology and a dedicated dental procedure suite. We offer a wide range of services, including annual and biannual physical exams, internal and external parasite prevention and treatment, and screening for common infectious diseases. Our veterinarians are committed to providing personalized care based on each individual animal's risk of exposure to disease-causing organisms.
We pride ourselves on our commitment to preventive care, ensuring that your pets receive the best possible health advice to keep them healthy and thriving. Our team of experienced veterinarians and support staff work together to manage both straightforward and complicated cases, utilizing our combined knowledge and expertise to provide the highest level of care.
At Four Paws Veterinary Services, we understand the importance of maintaining a comfortable and safe environment for both our clients and their pets. Our clinic is designed with species-specific exam rooms, an enlarged treatment area, and intensive care wards, ensuring that every patient receives the attention and care they deserve. We are proud to be part of a community that values animal health and well-being, and we look forward to continuing to serve you and your pets with compassion and excellence.
Our Services
We offer a variety of services to cater to the diverse needs of our clients and their pets. These include:
- Diagnostic Services: Our in-house laboratory testing includes blood chemistry analysis, urinalysis, intestinal parasite testing, and cytology. We also utilize species-specific commercial reference laboratory testing with twice-a-day courier service for rapid receipt of laboratory results. Our clinic is equipped with digital radiology (x-ray) for both whole body and dental imaging, allowing us to rapidly move images via email for interpretation by board-certified radiologists. Additionally, we partner with Coastal Veterinary Imaging for on-site ultrasound examination services.
- Medical and Surgical Care: We provide medical care for cats, dogs, and small mammals, including examination and testing to diagnose disease, establishing a prognosis, and providing a treatment plan. Our clinic is designed to care for critically ill patients needing aggressive care. We also offer surgical services, including surgical sterilization ("spay"/"neuter"), and dental services utilizing a dental suite equipped with a surgical table, supplemental heat delivery equipment, and a dental x-ray machine.
- Outpatient Care: For patients with known disease conditions requiring supportive care, our outpatient care services allow for fluid therapy or ongoing treatment without the need for overnight hospitalization. Many of our clients can schedule these treatment services to fit their schedule, either remaining in the clinic until the treatment is completed or leaving their pet for part of the day if the treatment requires more time.
- Nutrition Counseling: We provide nutrition counseling to help clients either prevent or manage existing disease conditions. Our veterinarians assess each individual animal's nutritional needs and offer personalized advice to ensure optimal health.
By choosing Four Paws Veterinary Services, you can trust that your pet will receive the highest quality care in a compassionate and professional environment. We are committed to continuing to provide exceptional veterinary services to our community, and we look forward to serving you and your pets.
