About Us
The Humane Society of New Orleans is dedicated to creating a more compassionate and humane community for all animals. Our mission is to provide the means for the prevention of cruelty to animals, enforce all laws designated for the protection of animals, promote responsible pet ownership, and place adoptable animals into responsible homes when available. We strive to strengthen the human-animal bond through various initiatives.
We carry out our mission through a range of activities. Our cruelty investigations and prosecutions aim to hold perpetrators accountable for animal abuse. We also engage in education programs for both children and adults, promoting animal training and responsible pet care. Our counseling services help reduce the number of animal surrenders by providing support to pet owners in need. We offer temporary shelter for homeless animals, nurturing and improving their behavior to increase their adoptability.
In addition to sheltering animals, we provide veterinary services for those in our care. Our placement counseling helps prospective adopters find the perfect pet, ensuring a smooth transition for both the animal and the new owner. We develop educational literature about pet care and organize pet therapy visits to nursing facilities, bringing joy and comfort to those in need. An active volunteer corps is essential to our operations, and we encourage community involvement in our efforts.
We accept donations in the form of monetary contributions and essential supplies such as dog food, cat food, kitty litter, puppy pads, cleaning supplies, towels, traps, and carriers. These donations are crucial in supporting our daily operations and ensuring the well-being of the animals in our care. By supporting the Humane Society of New Orleans, you are contributing to a more humane and compassionate community for all animals.
