The Humane Society of Tampa Bay is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the lives of animals and the community we serve. Established in 1912 as the Hillsborough County Humane Society, our mission has remained steadfast: to prevent cruelty to animals and children, and to provide a safe haven for those in need.
Our Commitment
We are committed to leading the way in animal welfare, serving the community with optimism and integrity. Our core values of compassion and respect for all, including each other and animals, guide our actions and decisions. We strive to create a community where every adoptable animal has a loving home and where all animals are treated with respect and kindness.
Our Services
We offer a wide range of services designed to support both animals and their owners. Our animal hospital provides affordable, full-service veterinary care, including spay/neuter services, routine vaccinations, and special surgeries. We also offer pet food and supply distribution programs, including free pet food for those in need, and our Animeals program delivers monthly supplies of dog and cat food to homebound and elderly citizens.

Humane Euthanasia
In addition to our medical services, we provide shelter for homeless and at-risk animals, facilitating adoptions and ensuring that pets find forever homes. Our Humane Education Center offers educational programs for children, teaching them the importance of caring for animals in a welcoming and engaging environment. We also provide humane euthanasia services for pets suffering from chronic illness, irreparable injury, or old age.
Our Approach
We are a managed admission shelter, meaning we only accept animals that we feel we can adopt. This approach allows us to focus on finding homes for as many animals as possible, rather than simply taking in stray animals. We have an aggressive transfer program that takes in animals from other shelters, helping to lower the euthanasia rate in our community.
For over a century, we have been dedicated to helping animals in need. With the support of our community, we have helped over a million animals find their way to safe and loving homes. We are proud to be one of the oldest corporations in the state of Florida, and we continue to work tirelessly towards our mission of creating a humane community where every animal is treated with respect and kindness.
Join Us
We invite you to join us on this journey towards a more compassionate and humane community. By partnering with us, you can help change the lives of pets and people in need. Together, we can make a difference and ensure that every animal has a safe and loving home.
