About Us
The Nebraska Humane Society is a private non-profit organization dedicated to protecting, saving, and enriching the lives of animals in the communities we serve. Founded in 1875, we are the fifth oldest humane society in the nation and one of the largest. Our mission is to provide education, sanctuary, and support to animals in need, while also promoting responsible pet ownership.
We offer a wide range of services to support both animals and their owners. Our low-cost spay/neuter center helps reduce pet overpopulation, while our training classes and behavior modification programs assist in rehabilitating animals. We also provide medical services, foster care, and adoption services to ensure that every animal finds a loving home. Our innovative Molly Project works to rehabilitate unruly, aggressive, and fearful dogs, giving them a second chance at a happy life.
In addition to our shelter services, we offer community outreach programs, including educational initiatives for schools, religious groups, and civic organizations. We believe in fostering a respectful and inclusive environment for all people and animals, and we are committed to promoting cultural equity within our organization.
We rely on private donations from individuals, corporations, and foundations to support our lifesaving work. We also generate income through adoption fees, our Animal Outfitters retail store, and services like training classes and private pet cremations. Our goal is to create a more humane world for both people and animals, and we are inspired by the compassion and dedication of our staff, volunteers, and supporters.
