About Us
At the Palm Springs Animal Shelter, we are dedicated to providing a safe and compassionate haven for all animals in need. Our mission is to fight for the humane treatment of animals and promote our no-kill philosophy, ensuring that every animal receives the care and respect they deserve.
Our MissionWe operate with transparency and integrity, fostering teamwork and collaboration to achieve our goals. Our core values include demonstrating respect and kindness towards all animals and their families. We are committed to being a humane and compassionate animal care and adoption center, providing a safe haven for adoptable animals, those requiring rehabilitation and training, and those needing minor to critical medical treatment.
HistoryOur journey began with the help of generous animal-loving benefactors who raised funds for a new state-of-the-art animal shelter. Ground was broken on July 7, 2010, and we officially took over operations on November 1, 2012. This partnership has allowed us to establish a new model of sheltering in the City of Palm Springs, making us the only public shelter operating under a no-kill philosophy in the Coachella Valley.
ServicesWe offer a wide range of services designed to support the welfare of animals and their families. These include:
- Adoption Services: We have a variety of adoptable pets available, each with their own unique story and personality. Our adoption fees cover spaying/neutering, up-to-date vaccinations, microchipping, and a medical examination, among other services.
- Animal Control: We work closely with the community to ensure the safe and humane handling of animals.
- Community Cat Programs: We provide programs aimed at managing and caring for community cat populations.
- Rick Erwin Pet Food Bank: We offer assistance with pet food to those in need.
- Microchip Your Pets: We help keep your pets safe by providing microchipping services.
- Desert Wildlife Center: In January 2024, we assumed management of the former Coachella Valley Wild Bird Center in Indio, and we are opening the Desert Wildlife Center in early 2025. This facility will take in sick, injured, and orphaned birds for rehabilitation, with plans to expand to mammals and reptiles in the future.
Commitment to CompassionTo reflect our commitment to helping animals not only in Palm Springs but throughout the Coachella Valley and beyond, our Board of Directors changed the legal name of the organization to Greater Palm Springs Animal Allies in September 2024. We are committed to the welfare of all animals and have adopted an animal-friendly menu policy for our events, providing vegan meals at all of the events we produce.
Community SupportWe rely on donations, volunteers, community support, and of course, adoptions to meet the challenge of compassionately operating a public shelter. Your support is crucial in helping us continue our mission to provide a safe haven for all animals.
Join us in our mission to make a difference in the lives of animals. Together, we can create a more compassionate and humane community for all.
