About Us
The Peninsula Humane Society & SPCA (PHS/SPCA) is a local, private, non-profit charitable organization dedicated to animal welfare. Our mission is to build healthy relationships between people and animals. We strive to act in and advocate for the best interest of animals, responding to their individual needs with passion and compassion.
At our Coyote Point Shelter, we provide a sanctuary for stray animals and accept owner-surrendered pets. Our shelter is one of the few in the country that rehabilitates wildlife, ensuring that both domestic and wild animals receive the care they need. We house animals who are quarantined after biting a person or another animal, and we occasionally intake animals involved in protective custody situations or animal cruelty cases.
Our care staff includes Veterinarians, Vet Assistants, Registered Vet Techs, Animal Care Technicians, and Wildlife Care Specialists. This team provides outstanding levels of care, including routine daily care and emergency services, for all our animals. Our goal is to reunite domestic animals with their owners or re-home them with adopters. For wildlife, we strive to make them better as soon as possible while minimizing contact to avoid imprinting, then return them to their natural habitats.
We are proud to have found homes for 100% of healthy dogs and cats in our care since 2002. However, some animals require a great deal of medical care or behavioral work before they can be made available for adoption. Our donor-supported Hope Program enables us to make well and find homes for approximately 150 animals per month.
We are committed to creating an environment where there is mutual care, trust, and respect. Our code of ethics guides us in providing a working environment that embodies trust, respect, and partnership while fulfilling our mission, vision, and goals. We honor our commitments, focus on solving problems, and base our decisions on accurate information.
At PHS/SPCA, we believe that animals should be treated with dignity and respect as creatures with feelings. We encourage prudent risk-taking in the pursuit of innovation and recognize that staff and volunteers have accountability to our code of ethics in their daily interactions with each other and with members of the public.
We are a top-rated nonprofit by Great NonProfits and have received a 4-star rating from Charity Navigator, as well as a Platinum-level Transparency rating from Candid (previously Guide Star). Our work means almost 5,000 lives saved each year, and we are dedicated to continuing this vital work in our community.
