About Us
At Second Chance Animal Rescue, we are dedicated to giving animals in our community a second chance at life. Founded in the late 1980s by a group of passionate volunteers, our mission has remained steadfast: to provide care, rescue, and well-being to animals in need. Over the years, we have grown into a reputable nonprofit organization, committed to making a significant impact in the lives of companion animals and our community.
Our journey began with a small but enthusiastic group of volunteers operating out of an old farmhouse on the east side of Norman. We organized our first adoption event at the Kinko’s on the corner of Boyd and Jenkins, resulting in the adoption of 47 out of 50 animals taken directly from the Norman Animal Shelter. This early success laid the foundation for our growth and expansion. In 1989, we were officially incorporated as a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization, and we have continued to build on the culture established by our early founders.
Today, we operate from a state-of-the-art facility, thanks to a capital campaign in the late 1990s. Our shelter is a safe and healing environment where animals can recover from their past and transition into their future homes. We achieve our mission through various services, including animal adoption, spaying/neutering practices, and community education. Our dedicated staff and an incredible foster network work tirelessly to save over 800 animals each year.
We offer a range of programs designed to improve the lives of companion animals and our community. These include vaccine clinics, volunteer opportunities, speaking engagements, and partnerships with other impactful organizations. Our commitment to spaying and neutering helps reduce overpopulation, while our fostering and adoption programs ensure that animals find loving homes. We also engage in community outreach and education to promote animal welfare and advocate for policies that support our mission.
Our team is comprised of experienced professionals and passionate volunteers who share a common goal: to provide second chances to those who need them most. From our Shelter Director, Rose Grimm, who has nearly 14 years of experience in animal welfare, to our board members who bring their expertise in finance, law, and community service, we are united in our mission to make a difference.
At Second Chance Animal Rescue, we believe that every animal deserves a second chance at life. We are honored to carry on the legacy of our early founders and continue their dream of giving animals in our community a second chance at life. Together, we can make a significant impact and create a world where every animal has the opportunity to thrive.
