About Us
The Humane Society of Parkersburg (HSOP) is dedicated to the care and protection of animals in our community. Our mission is multifaceted, aiming to provide shelter, rehabilitation, and adoption for homeless animals, prevent cruelty, neglect, and abuse, promote responsible pet ownership, inspire compassion and respect through education, and reduce pet overpopulation by offering affordable spay/neuter services and targeted wellness services.
Since 1956, we have been committed to making a significant difference in the lives of those who cannot speak for themselves. Our shelter serves as a vital resource for lost, injured, rescued, neglected, abandoned, and surrendered pets. We reunite lost pets with their owners, find loving permanent homes for homeless animals, and educate people on how to properly care for and respect animals. Our Humane Officers enforce animal ordinances, conduct welfare investigations, and prosecute cases of neglect or cruelty to the fullest extent of the law.
One of our primary focuses is on reducing pet overpopulation. To achieve this, we provide low-cost spay/neuter services through our SPOT Clinic. This clinic is available to everyone, regardless of income or residency, making it accessible to all who need it. We also offer periodic vaccination clinics to encourage pet owners to take preventative measures for their pets.
In addition to our core services, we offer other forms of assistance. Our food bank helps dog and cat owners who need a little extra help with feeding their pets. We also provide cremation services, both private and mass, to help pet owners say goodbye to their beloved pets with dignity.
At the Humane Society of Parkersburg, we strive to find responsible and loving forever homes for our animals. Our adoption process is rigorous to ensure that adoptions last forever and animals are not returned to our shelter. We work closely with local rescue organizations to place animals in areas where animal overpopulation is under control.
We are proud of our commitment to the community and our dedication to making a positive impact on the lives of animals. Whether you need spay/neuter services, vaccinations, food assistance, or help with saying goodbye to a pet, we are here to support you. Our goal is to inspire compassion and respect for all animals, and we invite you to join us in this mission.
