Our mission is to provide exceptional educational experiences grounded in evidence-based, best practices in veterinary medical education, preparing competent and confident graduates to begin careers that make a meaningful impact in the field.
Our Commitment to Excellence
We are home to approximately 600 bright, talented, energetic, and dedicated professional students who are studying to become the next generation of veterinarians. Our four-year Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) program is designed to provide a broad foundation of knowledge and skills in comparative veterinary medicine, allowing students to choose a species-specific stream in small or large animal practice. This flexible design enables our graduates to pursue careers in various fields, including small animal, large animal, equine, livestock, zoologic, poultry, laboratory animal, aquatic medicine, pathology, public health, or research.
Academic Excellence
Consistently ranked among the best veterinary schools in the nation by U.S. News & World Report and internationally by QS World University Rankings, we are a leader in veterinary medical education. Our curriculum is built on sound educational theory, designed and delivered by eminent faculty who are leaders in their fields. We foster the development of critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills within a comprehensive foundation of biomedical and clinical experiential learning.
Clinical Training and Services
Our students gain hands-on experience through clinical training at the William R. Pritchard Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital. Here, they work alongside experienced faculty and residents to provide high-quality care for a variety of animals. The hospital offers specialized services, including internal medicine, surgery, critical care, oncology, dermatology, neurology, ophthalmology, and behavior. Our students also participate in primary care services, which include routine veterinary care for dogs and cats, annual examinations, preventative care, and treatment for outpatient illnesses and injuries.
Research and Community Engagement
In addition to clinical training, we offer various opportunities for students to explore and experience research through programs like the STAR program. This supportive environment allows students to delve into established laboratories and gain valuable research experience. We also provide international summer externships where students can study and travel abroad, further enriching their educational journey. Our commitment to community engagement ensures that our graduates are well-prepared to make a positive impact in their future careers.
