About Us
Associated Humane Societies
For over a century, Associated Humane Societies has been dedicated to rescuing, rehabilitating, and rehoming stray and homeless animals, both domestic and wildlife. Founded in 1906, we are the largest animal sheltering system in New Jersey, operating three shelters located in Newark, Forked River, and Tinton Falls. Our mission is to provide quality care and sanctuary until loving homes can be found for the thousands of animals that come through our doors.
Our Mission
We are committed to rescuing stray and homeless animals, providing them with the care and sanctuary they need until they can be rehomed. As a community-based organization, we offer low-cost veterinary care and humane education to promote responsible pet guardianship throughout New Jersey. Our services include adoptions, animal control, rescue and rehabilitation, public wellness clinics, advocacy, TNVR (Trap-Neuter-Vaccinate-Return) programs, humane education, volunteer opportunities, outreach and events, and a pet food pantry.
