About Us
The Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine is a premier institution dedicated to advancing the field of veterinary medicine through exceptional teaching, impactful research, and outstanding service. Established in 1905, we are one of the oldest veterinary colleges in the United States to grant the Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree. Our rich history and tradition of innovation have enabled us to become a leader in veterinary education, with over 7,000 men and women having been granted the DVM degree.
Our mission is to create an environment that is fulfilling and rewarding, fostering good communication, productive collaboration, mutual respect, diversity, integrity, and honesty. We pride ourselves on providing the highest standards of professional education, leveraging a rich, varied, and extensive agricultural program in the surrounding area, as well as referrals from surrounding states, to provide a wealth of clinical material for professional education in veterinary medicine.
The College of Veterinary Medicine is composed of several academic departments, including the Department of Clinical Sciences, which focuses on the clinical training of veterinary students. Our curriculum is designed to provide students with a solid foundation in foundational sciences such as anatomy and physiology, followed by clinically based material that includes both lecture and clinical laboratory activities. The third and fourth years of the program are dedicated to hands-on clinical training in the Veterinary Health Center, where students apply their knowledge base through practical experience with client-owned animals under faculty supervision.
We are committed to creating extraordinary graduates who are equipped to pursue highly rewarding and successful careers in veterinary medicine. Approximately 70 percent of our graduates enter into the field of general veterinary practice, while the remainder pursue advanced or alternate training following graduation. Our graduates are well-prepared to serve the local and global communities, contributing to animal and human health through their expertise.
At the Kansas State University College of Veterinary Medicine, we are dedicated to scholarship through innovation and excellence in teaching, research, and service. Our faculty, comprising a broad and diverse group of experts, work closely with students, animal owners, producers, and various members of the local and agricultural communities to provide state-of-the-art clinical and diagnostic services. We strive to remain tightly aligned with the Veterinary Health Center at Kansas State University, ensuring that our educational process is deeply connected to practical application and public service.
Our commitment to education and service is fundamental to our existence. We take our responsibility seriously, aiming to provide outstanding public service and student teaching through the dedication of all members of our department. Through collective thinking and innovative approaches, we work towards achieving our current goals while also striving to be leaders in the field of veterinary medicine.
