About Us
At San Diego Humane Society, we are dedicated to creating a more humane world by inspiring compassion and advancing the welfare of animals and people. As an open-admission shelter, we provide a safe haven for animals in need, ensuring that no healthy or treatable shelter animal is euthanized in San Diego County. Our mission is to create a more compassionate world by providing hope and advancing the welfare of animals and people.
Our Vision
Our vision is a world where every animal has a loving home and where animal welfare is a priority. We strive to achieve this vision through our commitment to exceptional care, innovative programs, and community support. Our services are designed to meet the diverse needs of our community, from animal behavior and training to veterinary care and spay/neuter programs.

Our Commitment
At San Diego Humane Society, we are committed to building a safer world for animals. We lead the field of animal welfare nationally by sharing our expertise and best practices with organizations across the country. Our innovative programs, such as our animal behavioral rehabilitation center, have rehabilitated over 3,000 animals who may have otherwise been euthanized due to behavioral concerns. We are proud to be a private, independent, nonprofit organization that is not affiliated with any other humane society or society for the prevention of cruelty to animals.
Our Values
Our values guide everything we do:
- Compassion: We treat every animal with kindness and respect.
- Courage: We take bold steps to protect and care for animals.
- Impact: We strive to make a meaningful difference in the lives of animals and people.
- Inclusion: We welcome all members of our community and provide services that meet their diverse needs.
- Integrity: We uphold the highest standards of ethics and transparency in all our operations.
